Pen to Calendar -- Local Show - Sept. 5th at IWAN Warehouse

I'm trying not to cry because I will be out of town on September 5, when this sure-to-rad local event will go down at the IWAN Warehouse, The Bubble, in downtown Fort Lauderdale at 810 N.E. 4th Ave. Can you sense that tears are not dripping into my keyboard as I type out the names of the bands that will be in attendance where and when I will not? Murderous Rampage, Band No. 12, CATALONIA (my heart!), Dooms De Pop, Anteaters and the Women Who Love Them and Break On Through.

DJ Sean Weeks, that inexcusably nice-looking young man who spins and spins and spins at clubs all around Lauderdale, will man the turntables along with The Commisioner. Also, Laser Wolf will air a surf video by Ergophobia called Patience. Here's the trailer for the flick:

PATIENCE Trailer from Chaz Loskarn on Vimeo.

It's very important to know who puts on an event so that if you like it you can find similar events. This event will be put on by Laser Wolf and IWAN. You can find out what events Laser Wolf is putting on and keep up with live music and art events as well as occasional skating and surfing-related local events and information on the blog Laser Wolf.

Remember, September 5th, 5 p.m. at IWAN's warehouse The Bubble.

Wednesday: At Propaganda, straight-up pop indie rock St. Louis bands Sex Robots and Bunnygrunt have escaped the state of Missouri long enough to play with Bonnie Riot on Wednesday night. Steve Rullman, booker and promoter for Propaganda, said that it is not likely that we'll see these two Missourable (actually if you check out their MySpace pages, linked above, you will hear that they are quite delightful) bands in this area again in the near future -- that is unless we show out-of-town bands what a worthwhile addition the tri-county area of South Florida really is for their touring schedules!

I'll take a closer look at BunnyGrunt and Sex Robots tomorrow here on my blog.

Saturday: Alligator Alley will have Hialeah's Only Right Left, a jazz, funk, ska, reggae fusion band with female lead singer Ali Culotta gracing its stage on Saturday night. This is what they do:

Three other Miami bands The Shutter, Jacuzzi Fuzz and Spinlight City will cruise on up to Broward to join them.

Sunday: A Browardlicious event at Cinema Paradiso. Can I Say II will go down again this month, which means that much like Eastbound & Down (I hate being wrong, but I have to admit that the 2nd season of True Blood is downright amazing! Why do I talk about HBO shows when plugging local events? Because this is my blog, grr all right?!), its first incarnation was successful enough to warrant another. This time, there will be a screening of House of the Rising Punk at 8 p.m. and a vinyl swap outside. You don't have to pay nuffin' to sell and swap records at this event.

Also, there will be live bands -- one of Moodvane's faves Tongues of the Heartworm with a couple groups with which I'm not familiar and can not find links for, Anchorman and The Ruins.

Monday: Paolo Nutini will play at Culture Room on with Anya Marina and NRWO on Monday night -- that August 31st, if you're nasty. Yay! Look at my hands going together and apart, back and forth, back and forth for this Scottish lad with the unique vocal pipes and the name that sounds like a flavor of gelato. Tickets are available and they go at $19.99.

Fallign down the pipe of Fall: Also, if you put your binoculars to your eyes, as I sometimes do, you will see some good stuff coming down the pipe of Fall. Leonard Cohen is coming to the BankAtlantic Center! Couldn't you just die? No, not until October 18th, cause he's playing on the 17th. Only then will your life be complete! The Bravery is coming to Culture Room on October 16th! I know it's kind of too cool for school and cheesy, but I can't help myself when it comes to that band. Fun! Also, Doug Stanhope is coming to the Culture Room on November 20th. Wow! He is gonna make me laugh!

There are a few things that I'm pretty psyched about this week. I am seriously looking forward to watching my fellow PHS (Plantation High School)alumnae Oscar Collazos take the stage at Paradise Live at the Seminole Hard Rock Hotel and Casino this Thursday night. If you went to PHS and you read this blog, you should come out and support Oscar. It takes a bold soul to pursue comedy, and it would be so great if a bunch of PHSers turned out to support him. Misha and I will be there! Tickets are about $15 after taxes and other charges.

Also, I am ridiculously excited about the Mamma Mia singalong at Cinema Paradiso this Saturday night. I recently watched this flick, which stars Meryl Street and Pierce Brosnan, and it was decent. The fun part about the flick really is ABBA's music and I couldn't resist singing along with the film -- and believe me, Pierce Brosnan needs all of the accompaniment that he can get! I haven't seen an actor attempt a singing role so far beyond his talents since Richard Gere in Chicago.

Saturday Night: Chill Night at The Bubble

Sometimes my mind says one thing and my body says another, which is to say that I thought that I would head up to West Palm Beach for the Respectable Street 22nd Anniversary Party last night, but my body said it was just too fatigued for the rock 'n' roll adventure. I went to The Bubble instead. They had an early show with Murderous Rampage, Lazer Beast and Fantastic Amazing. I took some pictures of the warehouse and performance. To see the Moodvane photo gallery from last Saturday night, click on the picture of Fantastic Amazing below. [caption id="attachment_4670" align="aligncenter" width="500" caption="Fantastic Amazing at IWAN Warehouse"][/caption] I only caught Fantastic Amazing, but it was fun to chat with some of the people hanging out there and to catch up with Garo and Yvonne and to find out about the progress of The Bubble warehouse.
